Let's Talk Skin!!

As a makeup artist, you do posses tricks to help cover up flaws in you skin, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't adopt a good skin care regimen. I have battled my skin for years! Ever since I was a teen!! I battled acne prone skin in high school and college and now, in addition to acne, I deal with dryness! You would think that since I have what seems to be an abundant amount of dryness that I wouldn't have to battle acne. Boy am I wrong!

I know you have heard people say "I have tried everything under the sun" and you probably don't believe them, but I will go a step further and tell you everything I have tried: the good and the desperate, no judgement!

Facials: I have gone to every esthetician at every reputable spa in my city. I've had deep pore cleansing, microdermabrasions, salicylic peels, other acid peels, things that smelled good, things that didn't smell so good. I have also gone to doctors, thinking that they held all the secrets, just to go through the same ugly process again, but worse because doctor's have the stronger products. So, needless to say, I have spent the majority of my teen years trying to hide the ugliness the peels leave you with and explaining it to everyone who saw my face.

Products: I have tried every product either prescribed to me, recommended to me, ones I have researched and bought, ones that included 8 products, ones that included only 1. I have tried the expensive brands, as well as, the drug store brands. Here is the ugly truth: I have tried home products like bleach out of desparation! AHHHHH Yea I said it bleach. It kills bacteria, so why not? And let me just say it works! But of course you can't use it every day cause then you end up with the worse chemical burn ever (been there)!

So, what is a girl/woman to do? I am tired of spending money on things that don't work or they work for a month and then I find myself having to switch up to something even more expensive. So, my research mind started working and I dug deeper into the internet, Youtube, magazines, other people and whatever else I could get my hands on that was talking about SKIN!

And here are my results:

OILS!!! Pictured here is my skin care regimen: A mixture of Castor Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Grapeseed Oil, and Coconut Oil all mixed in my little bottle (except the coconut oil).

Details:

Olive Oil: Very moisturizing and great for dehydrated skin. It contains linoleic acid, compound not produced by the body, that prevents water from evaporating. In addition, it consist of antioxidants that neutralize free radicals that can cause aging.

Castor Oil: Contains antioxidants so it helps with the aging process. Fights off infection by inhibiting the growth of  bacteria, reduces inflammation and provides essential fatty acids and vitamin E. It also helps with dark circles. It is known for it's drying characteristic. So it's great for oily skin. (It's also been noted to help eyebrow growth..bonus)

Grapeseed Oil: It contains antioxidants that help prevent the pores from clogging which prevents acne and it helps cure existing acne with its anti inflammatory properties. Contains the ingredient Astringent which tightens and tones the skin

Coconut Oil: I use coconut oil as my moisturizer. It absorbs quickly and you only need a little.

I have been using oils on my skin for about a month now and it has drastically changed the look and feel of my skin. This is great for all skin types, you just have to play around with the mixture until you get what works for you (example: oily skin may use more castor oil and grapeseed oil than a person with dry skin and coconut oil as a moisturizer may not be needed)

So, play around and find what works for you. Most importantly, do your research!

*All the oils are all natural or extra virgin
